I’d like to thank the Academy…

…and especially Warren Beatty (and the desiccated remains of Theadora Van Runkle’s mannequin). I take full responsibility for last night’s Oscar meltdown. Clearly Mr. Beatty has not recovered from the shock of my revealing that Bonnie and Clyde were willing tools of the government and that their story was made of whole cloth. Another win for POM!

On the other hand, what happened may have been a desperate attempt by the 79 year old star to sell tickets to his upcoming film which features himself as Howard Hughes, one of the great hoax generators of all time. (HH is certainly ripe to be POM’d) Two young British actors, one in a dress, are featured in a supporting love story, but I seriously doubt anyone but the truly desperate would earmark 15 to 20 bucks, US, to see such a turkey.

Then again, the whole farrago may have been a nod to the “alternate facts” meme and that there can be two wholly different realities to choose from: One is a love story with show tunes to back a lesbian actress and a cardboard cutout heart throb and the other is black guys doing drugs and being gay. Well, maybe there’s only one reality in Hollywood: Gay…

Jerry and George in unison: “Not that there is anything wrong with that!”

Meanwhile, I’d like to introduce a blogger who I’ve enjoyed over the years, Christopher Loring Knowles. As far as Hoo Haw goes, he handles it better than anyone and has allowed me to keep up with some of this stuff via the musings of this cautious observer.

This is a link to one of his Oscar breakdowns:

  1. In a town where everything is scripted and everyone reads a script, that happens? I suppose. The more I think about it, the more it looks like just a grand screw-up. I thought maybe LaLa really did win, but that as with ARGO, more powerful people wanted Moonlight.

    1. We can also mention the mostly white vs black cast. I believe in 2016 we had famous people complaining about the prejudice of Oscar awards.

  2. I didn’t watch the Oscars. I never did. I’ve noticed a steady decline in Hollywood movies in the past 20 years. It’s like the ability to tell a story has been lost and they rely on templates. In some cases you see kernels in movies of interesting ideas that were then wedged into an existing template and made irrelevant. American cinema has always been about appealing to a broad audience but now one can literally sense the committtee format production in movies today. The result is a zombie film making industry that produces assembly line productions. Lots of quantity- zero quality. Ten minutes into any film and I pickup on the formula being used and I can predict the sequence of the movie scene by scene almost to the point of predicting lines of dialogue.

  3. Some dictionary definitions
    la-la land :
1)Los Angeles or Hollywood, especially with regard to the lifestyle and attitudes of those living there or associated with it.
2)a euphoric dreamlike mental state detached from the harsher realities of life
3)the mental state of someone who is not aware of what is really happening

    moonlight :
1)”hold a second job, especially at night,” 1957 (implied in moonlighting), from moonlighter (1954), from the notion of working by the light of the moon; see moonlight (n.). Related: Moonlighting. Earlier the word had been used to mean “commit crimes at night” (1882).

  4. Hi. I’m a first time poster, long time lurker. I just wanted to point out to you if you didn’t know it already that Warren Beatty is the alleged brother of actress Shirley MacLaine. I don’t know about you, but to me, they look absolutely nothing alike. MacLaine (the superior actor of the two, imo) looks more like a ginger Vivien Leigh and Warren Beatty has always looked sterotypically Mediterranean to me. More importantly, I haven’t been able to find any childhood photos of them together. The Wikipedia article on them is very skimpy with the details.

    1. Their sibling-ness never added up-
Beatty forwarded the handsome man as total fuck-up pose with all of the morons and bastards he’s played in his films and in his alleged love life- The message: Handsome men are too much trouble, ladies- Take some pills and engage in a little shopping therapy, have a fling with a handsome fuck-up but don’t settle down or have a family- When your older, try women and when that doesn’t work because of emotional confusion, there will be plenty of stray cats to care for- Beatty’s image has contributed to the population reduction/replacement agenda- His beard marriage to that lesbian, and their tranny kids is part of the same agenda-
Shirley has been pushing new age crap for decades- Total bullshit as spiritual refreshment- All those cults are government ops to drain your pocketbook, leave you confused and popping/shopping til you drop-
