A true valedictorian

This valedictorian address is available on video at Gnostic Media, but is behind a pay wall. Fortunately, someone in the comments linked to a printed version. That link is beneath the fold.

What courage! This woman stood before her teachers and administrators and fellow students and used words like “brainwashing,” corporatocracy,” “secretive government.” She quoted John Taylor Gatto. She implied that test results do not matter. She challenged other students to demand more, that having to know something because it will be on the test is not enough. She challenged teachers and administrators to break their own chains, being told what to teach and how to teach it. She seems to think that classroom boredom is not necessarily a character building state of being.

She thanked one teacher for waking her up. May we all be so fortunate to have one teacher like that. I was not.

Read the transcript here.  It will take all of five minutes.

  1. Very interesting post, an inexperienced mind glancing at the Matrix, dancing lightheartedly on one of its vertices. Analyse, think critically, not accepting things at face value, demand truth… Hmmm, thinking for oneself takes a lot of energy and courage, I would say all those things are not for everybody, nor everybody aspires to that. It’s just human nature…, so much to say about it, but for now, all I can think of…

“Paula came from Washington with long golden hair
Twenty eight dollars in a fake silk purse and a leather skirt to wear
Shane came from Dublin town from the old world so green
Counterfeit ticket in to JFK in the land of his dreams

Street life’s the only life they take a walk in the park
Even tough they only met that day they were lovers by dark
Laid out on the morning skies he puts a ring on her hand
He said listen babe we gotta take what’s ours do it or die

Quit dreaming, this is real life baby
Real life’s the only life what’s it all about
Quit dreaming, this is real life baby

Way out on the dock that night, the colour is red
23rd victim of a gangland war takes his last breath
Outside the sister cried, she said the whole world’s so mean
Heavyweight killer in the ring, turns killing machine

Quit dreaming this is real life baby
Real life’s the only life what’s it all about
Quit dreaming this is real life baby”…

  2. While I can appreciate you posting this , as it seems like a victory
for free thought , but whenever I see the word gold in anyones name
my antenna go up . I’m not disagreeing with what she says .
And I’m not accusing the young lady ,
you or Gnostic Media of anything , just asking questions ,
and feeling like nothing ever happens without TPTBs approval .
Did she not have a faculty adviser for this speech ?
, have to have it approved beforehand ? Would advisers ask ,
when hearing this will the other students feel good about
themselves , their future ? if the most outstanding student says :

“I am now accomplishing that goal. I am graduating. I should look at this as a positive experience, especially being at the top of my class. However, in retrospect, I cannot say that I am any more intelligent than my peers. I can attest that I am only the best at doing what I am told and working the system.”

at the end she advocates for a pedagogic future

      1. Me too Mark. I, likewise, could not care less if she was jewish, japaneseish, mayanish, tutsish… Also, it seems a bit of insidious propaganda. Did she meant all of what she said? First thrashes the system and final paragraph commends elements of the system. Kind of like the Uber ex-employee. I’m OK with the “what” and the “who” of the message delivered up to a certain point. I disagree in this: I think we do not need to rely on any system to advance in our educaton/self-improvement once we are adults… What with I have issues is the “When”, the “how”, the “where”, and “Why”… Why she did it? Can’t say for sure and do not bother to search the answer. BUT “When” nothing is at stake, it is easy to speak up. Put her career, her family and her future on the line and let’s see if she keeps it up. I am afraid to say that is very unlikely to happen. Besides, I find what she did disrespectful to the other students, very selfish. Many students and their families could have done many efforts/sacrifices to reach that goal. The grind, effort and sacrifices were very real to get through all that. That was not the most appropriate time for that message IMO. If she felt so, why she did not boycott the event and publish her msg in a blog, just like the girl from Uber that posted something after being fired and then Uber hires Eric Holder’s firm to investigate and the ensuing show…
I do not know what her goal was; but kind of know what she accomplished: souring the moment for most of her classmates and families. Again, thanks for the post, it was interesting nonetheless.

  3. The educational philosophy and pedagogy of Johann Friedrich Herbart (4 May 1776 – 14 August 1841) highlighted the correlation between personal development and the resulting benefits to society. In other words, Herbart proposed that humans become fulfilled once they establish themselves as productive citizens. Herbartianism refers to the movement underpinned by Herbart’s theoretical perspectives.[10] Referring to the teaching process, Herbart suggested 5 steps as crucial components. Specifically, these 5 steps include: preparation, presentation, association, generalization, and application.[11] Herbart suggests that pedagogy relates to having assumptions as an educator and a specific set of abilities with a deliberate end goal in mind.[12]
Critical pedagogical practices may include, listening to and including students’ knowledge and perspectives in class, making connections between school and the broader community, and posing problems to students that encourage them to question assumed knowledge and understandings. The goal of problem posing to students is to enable them to begin to pose their own problems. Teachers acknowledge their position of authority and exhibit this authority through their actions that support students.[13]

That looks good on paper , compared to what would come later .
But to me it looks like a recruitment strategy . Find the ones who will serve
the elite order . Avant garde , French, literally “advance guard” .

    Johann Friedrich Herbart (German – 4 May 1776 – 14 August 1841)

ok , May 1776 , where have I heard that before

The Illuminati (plural of Latin illuminatus, “enlightened”) is a name given to several groups, both real and fictitious. Historically, the name usually refers to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on 1 May 1776.

” This was happening to me, and if it wasn’t for the rare occurrence of an !!!!! avant-garde !!!!!! tenth grade English teacher, Donna Bryan, who allowed me to open my mind and ask questions before accepting textbook doctrine, I would have been doomed. !!!!!!!!!! I am now enlightened, but my mind still feels disabled . !!!!!!!!! I must retrain myself and constantly remember how insane this ostensibly sane place really is.”

Quick search = ” 1776 Was More Than the Year the Colonies Broke Free”
By Jacob E. Osterhout – “Newsweek” online , can’t read it but an interesting title ,
    another spook year ? like 1847 , 1933 etc …

my hyper critical mind is having an altercation with my
warm and fuzzy mind , I will no longer take anything at face
value , so here goes :
Perhaps the young lady is auditioning for an future intel position ,
does anyone know were she is going for university ?
    Stanford ? Princeton ? NYU ?

  4. And I’m just guessing that the The educational philosophy and pedagogy of Johann Friedrich Herbart was not intended for the poor folk , no public education systems anywhere at the time . So the elite recruiting the elite for future programs for worldwide domination .
Please correct me if I’m wrong .

  5. Her speech was from 2010, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to look into her path over the past 7 years.
There is an interview with her I found from 2015. Its 40 minutes ling, and I haven’t watched it yet. I’ll try and link to it here, for those who are interested.

    1. Thanks for the info bmseattle. BTW, Chief Seatlle? is that for the Suquamish native american leader? Please allow me to propose a better use of those ~40mins: Check out on J. T. Gatto and H. L. Mencken. I would bet those names are the ones being pushed in here by that young lady. I have read the famous Gatto opus, not in its entirety though. Not a lot to disagree on what he jotted down in that book; but the character has always seemed a tad bit distrustful to me.

      1. Mathis already exposed Mencken. I don’t know about Gatto. Maybe you distrust Gatto because he was interviewed by distrustful people like Richard Grove.

        1. I must have overlooked that paper then. The only thing I remember him mentioning Mencken was the list of 75 (or so) books/authors he published and that he considered Mencken as a probable agent (among many, many others) without a full expo of him. It must be in this years’ papers, perhaps, I do not think I might go back and double-check but thanks for the info. As for Gatto, Idk… Noting in particular other than plain old “gut feeling”.

          1. Interesting thing about Gatto: When he quit his teaching position in New York he wrote up his reasons, and it was published by the Wall Street Journal. Your gut feeling and that tell me that he is fake, or controlled opposition. The WSJ does not do honest journalism, nor does it randomly pick up stories of interest and elevate ordinary people to fame without reason.

          2. Mark, Say no more… thanks for the info. Nice feeling when you start not caring about the bullets…
“Neo: What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets?
Morpheus: No, Neo. I’m trying to tell you that when you’re ready, you won’t have to.”

  6. And she does end on a positive note ,
    this is brilliant
” We will break down the walls of corruption to let a garden of knowledge grow throughout America. Once educated properly, we will have the power to do anything, and best of all, we will only use that power for good, for we will be cultivated and wise. We will not accept anything at face value. We will ask questions, and we will demand truth.

So, here I stand. I am not standing here as valedictorian by myself. I was molded by my environment, by all of my peers who are sitting here watching me. I couldn't have accomplished this without all of you. It was all of you who truly made me the person I am today. It was all of you who were my competition, yet my backbone. In that way, we are all valedictorians. "

  7. The speech is pretty good. Some people here are suspicious. I would not dissect the speech to criticize her. I don’t expect too much from a 17 years old.I can say that some parts of the speech look very colectivist, but I would not judge the young lady too much.

  8. Many systems, organizations and institutions don’t work as they should. Even governments, local, statal, federal don’t work as they should. Why oppression is so widespread and yet so few revolutions throughout time and space? A propos of the 4th of July, we get a clue from one of our very own Founding Fathers:
“… all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.”
