What courage! This woman stood before her teachers and administrators and fellow students and used words like “brainwashing,” corporatocracy,” “secretive government.” She quoted John Taylor Gatto. She implied that test results do not matter. She challenged other students to demand more, that having to know something because it will be on the test is not enough. She challenged teachers and administrators to break their own chains, being told what to teach and how to teach it. She seems to think that classroom boredom is not necessarily a character building state of being.
She thanked one teacher for waking her up. May we all be so fortunate to have one teacher like that. I was not.

Very interesting post, an inexperienced mind glancing at the Matrix, dancing lightheartedly on one of its vertices. While I can appreciate you posting this , as it seems like a victory
for free thought , but whenever I see the word gold in anyones name
my antenna go up . I’m not disagreeing with what she says .
And I’m not accusing the young lady ,
you or Gnostic Media of anything , just asking questions ,
and feeling like nothing ever happens without TPTBs approval .
Did she not have a faculty adviser for this speech ?
, have to have it approved beforehand ? Would advisers ask ,
when hearing this will the other students feel good about
themselves , their future ? if the most outstanding student says :
“I am now accomplishing that goal. I am graduating. I should look at this as a positive experience, especially being at the top of my class. However, in retrospect, I cannot say that I am any more intelligent than my peers. I can attest that I am only the best at doing what I am told and working the system.”
at the end she advocates for a pedagogic future

Me too Mark. I, likewise, could not care less if she was jewish, japaneseish, mayanish, tutsish… Also, it seems a bit of insidious propaganda. Did she meant all of what she said? First thrashes the system and final paragraph commends elements of the system. Kind of like the Uber ex-employee. I’m OK with the “what” and the “who” of the message delivered up to a certain point. I disagree in this: I think we do not need to rely on any system to advance in our educaton/self-improvement once we are adults… What with I have issues is the “When”, the “how”, the “where”, and “Why”… Why she did it? Can’t say for sure and do not bother to search the answer. BUT “When” nothing is at stake, it is easy to speak up. Put her career, her family and her future on the line and let’s see if she keeps it up. I am afraid to say that is very unlikely to happen. Besides, I find what she did disrespectful to the other students, very selfish. Many students and their families could have done many efforts/sacrifices to reach that goal. The grind, effort and sacrifices were very real to get through all that. That was not the most appropriate time for that message IMO. If she felt so, why she did not boycott the event and publish her msg in a blog, just like the girl from Uber that posted something after being fired and then Uber hires Eric Holder’s firm to investigate and the ensuing show…
I do not know what her goal was; but kind of know what she accomplished: souring the moment for most of her classmates and families. Again, thanks for the post, it was interesting nonetheless.

That looks good on paper , compared to what would come later .
But to me it looks like a recruitment strategy . Find the ones who will serve

Her speech was from 2010, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to look into her path over the past 7 years.
There is an interview with her I found from 2015. Its 40 minutes ling, and I haven’t watched it yet. I’ll try and link to it here, for those who are interested.

Thanks for the info bmseattle. BTW, Chief Seatlle? is that for the Suquamish native american leader? Please allow me to propose a better use of those ~40mins: Check out on J. T. Gatto and H. L. Mencken. I would bet those names are the ones being pushed in here by that young lady. I have read the famous Gatto opus, not in its entirety though. Not a lot to disagree on what he jotted down in that book; but the character has always seemed a tad bit distrustful to me.

I must have overlooked that paper then. The only thing I remember him mentioning Mencken was the list of 75 (or so) books/authors he published and that he considered Mencken as a probable agent (among many, many others) without a full expo of him. It must be in this years’ papers, perhaps, I do not think I might go back and double-check but thanks for the info. As for Gatto, Idk… Noting in particular other than plain old “gut feeling”.

Interesting thing about Gatto: When he quit his teaching position in New York he wrote up his reasons, and it was published by the Wall Street Journal. Your gut feeling and that tell me that he is fake, or controlled opposition. The WSJ does not do honest journalism, nor does it randomly pick up stories of interest and elevate ordinary people to fame without reason.

The speech is pretty good. Some people here are suspicious. I would not dissect the speech to criticize her. I don’t expect too much from a 17 years old.I can say that some parts of the speech look very colectivist, but I would not judge the young lady too much.

Many systems, organizations and institutions don’t work as they should. Even governments, local, statal, federal don’t work as they should. Why oppression is so widespread and yet so few revolutions throughout time and space? A propos of the 4th of July, we get a clue from one of our very own Founding Fathers:
