“Iran Must Begin Acting Like A Normal Nation,” Says Totally Normal Nation
Webster’s (1828) defines morality:
MORAL’ITY, noun The doctrine or system of moral duties, or the duties of men in their social character; ethics.
The system of morality to be gathered from the writings of ancient sages, falls very short of that delivered in the gospel.
1. The practice of the moral duties; virtue. We often admire the politeness of men whose morality we question.
2. The quality of an action which renders it good; the conformity of an act to the divine law, or to the principles of rectitude. This conformity implies that the act must be performed by a free agent, and from a motive of obedience to the divine will. This is the strict theological and scriptural sense of morality But we often apply the word to actions which accord with justice and human laws, without reference to the motives form which they proceed.
Whether one chooses scriptural, legal-justice or a social-ethical perspective, most of us have a general idea of what passes for good, and what is not so good as to be considered evil, or immoral.
Whether or not this standard can be extended to nation states is less clear to me. All nation states today are, in fact, corporations, doing what all corporations do, by definition. Herein lies the dilemma. Most unsuspecting citizens of a country believe in some sort of government that provides benefits to its people. All benefits come at a cost. In most cases that cost is some form of slavery, or loss of liberty/freedom — paid voluntarily. In the US of A today, most all of its citizens have lost everything, including their soul, to debt, false belief, blind obedience, and an unusual conformity without being fully conscious of any of it. This generally describes the condition called enslavement.
Countries like the U.S. enslave other countries, claiming it’s good for its citizens, however brainwashed, or unconscious they may be. But in some weird, twisted way, we trust Big Brother.
Iran doesn’t seem to want any of this, and resists. Anyone, or any country who resists what the U.S. declares as “normal” is obviously a “terrorist” and must be vanquished.
Caitlin Johnstone’s excellent piece explores this issue in much more depth by applying some logic to the incoherent message coming from our leaders of late.
“We want Iran to simply behave like a normal nation,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a press statement the other day. “We believe that the sanctions we imposed today further that strategic objective.”

For your benefit, since I presume you didn’t read the “lefty” author’s article, there is more than enough hypocrisy to go around the world and back. Here’s the bottom line, FYI, Swede:
“The US government does not want any nation to become like the US. The US likes its abnormality among nations just the way it is, thank you very much. The US is the exception to all its own rules. That’s how American exceptionalism works. This is one of those “do as I say, not as I do” situations.
The US doesn’t want Iran to be like America. The US wants Iran to be like the other nations which have allowed themselves to be absorbed into the blob of the US-centralized empire.
The US would be perfectly happy for Iran to begin acting like Saudi Arabia: arming terrorist factions, beheading heretics, committing war crimes and deliberately creating humanitarian disasters for geostrategic convenience, yet aligning fully with US military, financial, and resource control agendas.
The US would be perfectly happy for Iran to begin acting like Israel: a nuclear-armed military outpost which constantly bombs adjacent nations, interferes in the US and other nations’ politics to shore up support, works toward the slow extermination of its indigenous population and fires upon protesters with live ammunition.
The US would be perfectly happy for Iran to begin acting like Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand or the EU: obedient military/intelligence assets who function as extra American states when it comes to foreign policy and international affairs.
That is what the US means by acting “normal”. Not acting moral. Not acting healthy. Certainly not acting like the US. It means acting obedient, compliant, and enslaved.”
As a rule, the U.S. much prefers puppet dictators, military juntas and the like to duly-elected governments overtly expressing national pride (patriotism) and self-rule — all of which are frauds, BTW.

Fitting with what you are saying here, it is a very amusing irony for Iran to call it “an act of terrorism” for the United States to assassinate Gen. Soleimani. By the international laws of war, the act was really completely out of line (not that such laws matter). Nations have many legitimate enemies, but one country cannot assassinate another country’s generals in peace time for very good reasons.
All in all, I think that Trump was mainly looking for a distraction of huge magnitude and he got one. He is the master of playing the media like a fiddle, and this may be his pièce de résistance.

Trump was looking for a distraction? Come on, Fauxlex! Trump is the distraction. He’s a puppet. The idea that he’s making any real presidential decisions is laughable.
Every once in a while, I visit my mom and watch the news with her. The vast majority of news “analysis” consists of psychologizing politicians’ reasons for doing things. This politician is getting back at that politician; this politician “knows” that he or she has to do “so and so” in order to appease his base, or whatever. And they go on and on and on about how screwed up Trump is. Speculation about politicians’ mental and emotional states now passes for analysis of world events. I wonder if writing for reality TV shows is now a stepping stone to writing for Anderson Cooper and all the other talking heads on cable news.

Some big statements on here. Does anyone talk to anyone that lives in IRAN? Are they even aware of what’s on our news broadcasts 24/7? The average joe in IRAN just goes to work like all of us drinks beer and stuff butdoesn’t even know what we are talking about. Can we get an Iranian average joe opinion?

I always smirk (not worth an actual laugh) when a country misaligns with the good ol’ U S of A. I think of the actress who gets fired from a movie or TV show because she is “difficult” to work with. What that means is she won’t put out for the producer. Iran may be just an actor playing the bad guy and the factions controlling Iran don’t want to force it onto the casting couch with “Hollywood”, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.
