Implications

Is there life on Mars? If so, it would surely be microbial or long rotted away. There are no structures or artifacts in the photos I’ve seen.

But if there is such life, what are the implications? They are, in a word, staggering. Think about it – we are but one solar system among billions in our galaxy which is itself one among billions in perhaps an infinite universe. For life to occur once in our solar system might be an extreme anomaly, but twice in the same solar system?* I think it reasonable to conclude in that situation that life is abundant all about us in our universe. **

That would be a comforting feeling because it also addresses another problem that bothers me: This is it? Really?

Really? Look about! To be fair, we are smart and stupid, caring and cruel, self-aware and deluded. We are a mixed bag. If this is the way of life everywhere, then I have to wonder, why bother? But if life is struggle for improvement, if our quest is simply to be better, then it we have made some minor steps forward. Baby steps.

I’ve been struggling with the implications of the Boston event. There is already abundant evidence of its bogus nature, and more will follow even as it will be ignored. Like buses, there will be another event along soon to replace this one. It is the same “strategy of tension” that plagued Western Europe in the 1970’s.

Here are but two photographic clues: “Heather Abbott: is “Jamie,” an amputee who is acting a part in Boston. “Jeff Bauman” is Vince Vogt, a double-amputee hired to play a part. The photographic resemblance of the two sets is undeniable. Look at each carefully, examine the eyes, chins, noses, overall facial structure, hairlines, and see that they bear heavy resemblance to one another. That is, of course, highly improbable but still, noninclusive. (For reference, the photos, once again, are below the fold.)

But there is a clincher: Vogt, like Bauman, is a double-amputee. “Jamie,” like “Heather Abbott”, is a below-left-knee amputee. Now the odds of coincidence are incalculable. These are not four people, but rather two.***

What are the implications? In a word, they are staggering.

If two people in the event are hired actors, nothing else matters. It means there was advance planning. If there was advance planning, it means the event was staged. If the event was staged, it means that there had to be active cooperation among the people there – police and fire departments, Craft Company guards, medical staff and most importantly, the media. Since these groups all operate independently for other purposes, there has to be a central guiding force, a powerful one which can co-opt elements within each. This would be our intelligence agencies, which by their own admission have long-ago penetrated (at the very least) our print and visual media.

And if this event was scripted and staged with a complicit media, what other events have also been so organized? And if it is possible to pull off an event like this in broad daylight, and to have the vast majority of our population uncritically buy into it, what does it say about our species? And if our species is so gullible, what must other life in other parts of the solar system be like? If we all evolve from a common origin, can we end up smarter, better-equipped to be self-aware?

Thankfully, there can be no implications beyond the edge of our habitable zone. Ours could well be just one very stupid place, destined for self-destruction. We are but a tiny speck, maybe an experiment gone awry, and of no consequence. If not, then I must repeat the question: This is it? Really?

But I place myself in your shoes – if you look at Heather and Jamie, Jeff and Vince, and admit they are probably the same people, the implications are your undoing. It requires an unmaking of your framework for viewing the world outside your craniums. In your shoes, I’d simply look away.

And that is what you have done. I sympathize. I’m holding a lantern now, and will carry on as always.

*The “twice” could really only be once, as life in one place is seeded by the other via meteorites. But still, two habitable planets in one solar system is statistically highly significant.

** “Reasonable” here refers to statistical likelihood. When two events are connected, the odds of both events happening are the product of the two denominators. So the odds of flipping a coin and getting heads are 1/2, and doing so twice in sequence are therefore 1/2 X 1/2, or 1/4 and three in a row 1/8. So say just for absurd example that the odds of there being life on one planet in one solar system are 1/100,000. The odds of two in that solar system would then be 1/1,000,000,000. But a stronger inference to draw would be that if life occurs twice in one little solar system, it is probably not that unusual.

*** Here, again, statistical inference is useful. The odds against a Bauman doppelgänger are daunting. The odds of both a Bauman and Heather Abbott doppelgängers are incalculable.
