Professorship

I have some background in the oil and gas industry. My early days were in a small company in Billings. During the time I was there we had two geologists. It was there I first heard the expression, which I roughly quote, that there are some mighty fine theories that make their way around, but the real world has a way of undoing them.

In the oil business, wells are drilled. The geological theories stand or fail, and success for failure is there for all to see. Many a time a hard-working and highly stressed geologist sat in the trailer next to the drilling rig, waiting for samples, hoping, and then going home and putting away his travel brochures till another day, undone by reality.

What is it going to take for Rob Natelson to come to face reality? Is it that he is nestled away, secure with a tenured government job, free to theorize, never having to drill a well? Time to put him in that trailer.

Check out his latest.

  1. Hear hear! Please stay on his ass. He really IS simply “rob the blogger”. The thing that really irritates the hell outta me, though, is that when Smith first brought his blog on line, no one read it. It was a dud. Veeeery boring. I and a few others decided to write on his blog. Suddenly, people started reading it and his audience grew. It became an enjoyable, entertaining place to discuss views and opinions. Then, the nutty perfesser shows up and the site goes to hell. Guess that ol’ Greggy FORGOT who made his site what it is. He got angry at those of us who helped his site along simply because we had the temerity to question his hero. Too bad that a fella can be so unappreciative. Too bad that he is so enamored of Nasalsound that he will not allow any contrary opinion. When Nasalsound calls for another “civil war” based on abortion, by GOD he better be able to provide Biblical justification for such nuttiness. But poor robby, like ALL rightwing nutcases, missed his chance in Vietnam. Guess that’s what makes him so eager to go to war now. Must be awful to live one’s life knowing that the cowardly actions of one’s youth hound you throughout your lifetime. But there really is nothing in rob’s bio that would indicate he would be a warrior for God THIS time around either. Otherwise, he’d’a done something by now. He’s a sad case. It’s gotta be real hard for rob to be rob, a warrior spirit in a weeny body! His flesh really IS weak!

  2. It’s not really a lack of support, Mark, half so much as an active resistance. In the entire time I’ve known of Professor Natelson (which is far longer than the amount of time you, I, Gregg and Rob have been bloggers combined) he has utilized the same tactic. He relies on rumors of his vaunted scholarship to carry forward a false authority, the image of scholarship regarding things he knows nothing more of than the well-read postal worker. As with all things at core Republican, defense of the image is vastly more important (and savage) then defense of facts or often reality itself.

Gregg has reason to like, trust and respect Rob Natelson. This I accept and understand. Gregg’s readers pick up on that and carry it forward as a charge. I would expect little support at ECW.

For the record, I appreciate what you do at ECW. I am simply tired of being told to play nice, while anonymous others are given free reign to stab away with their petty pocket knives. As you so simply put it, no, it hasn’t been pleasant. Perhaps it’s a failing in ourselves that leaves us engaging in venues that just aren’t that much fun.
