Global warming is real!

I heard about this yesterday – Fox up to its usual tricks. Along about 1:45 in this video, Bill O’Reilly purports to show thugs in Madison to make his point that the protesters there are bad people. Problem – look in the background – there are palm trees.

Gotta call Foxshit on this one.

  1. The California scenes coincided with the point in the story where they were talking about outsiders being bussed into Wisconsin. Looked copacetic.

You’re too anxious for a “gotcha”.

    1. Seems like a bit of a stretch to get wound up about something like this, especially from a network you dismiss in toto.

    2. Then, adding a little subscript saying, “Union demonstration in California” under that shot was in order.

But, why didn’t they do that? Because Fox was hoping you’d hear Bill O prattling on with his poor fox new corespondent and hopefully get you to think, “Self, there is a bad union man acting violent. Maybe all unions are violent? Bill O might be right?!”

But, they didn’t put that. (Which is sort of pathetic considering Fox is the king of using text banners and other flashy graphic media for their programming)

So why not add some text to inform the viewer that this footage was from someplace else other than Wisconsin?

Answer: Fox was hoping to manipulate the viewer. It’s not some mistake. Occam’s Razor and all that…. And not only that, but they’ve been caught splicing in older footage and purported it to be current media before! Several times! Their track record is less than stellar…

This isn’t some defensible mistake. This was intentional.

      1. You didn’t read my link so I’ll paste the defense.

“The segment in question occurred during The O’Reilly Factor as Bill O’Reilly was discussing the anger in the union protests. At the top of the piece, he rolled footage of a number of the “union thug” videos that have become so popular on Right Wing news sites in the past few weeks. O’Reilly clearly identified the videos as collectively coming from “all over the country.” As many shows do, this B-roll footage was replayed again during the rest of the segment, including during an interview with Mike Tobin, Fox News’ reporter who’s been on the ground in Wisconsin.

Here’s where the problem occurred. Tobin was discussing Wisconsin (since that where he’s been) while the general footage played in the background. Taken out of context, these few seconds would seem deceptive. But, if you’d already seen the full segment, you’d recognize what the footage was (besides, this same clip has aired on other Fox News programs like Glenn Beck and been identified as coming from California). Further, the protest footage from Wisconsin is clearly labeled “Madison” as well as date and time stamped, while the “palm tree footage” is labeled “Union Protests.” Confusing? Not really, though if one were to simply see the 43-second clip on YouTube, one could reasonably raise their eyebrows. A reminder of the importance of context.”

        1. I did read the content from your link. It was a stretch.

Why not cite the location of the footage while it was rolling? The answer is they were hoping the media would meld imagery and words together to so the viewer would make the logical conclusion: This stuff is happening in Wisc.

Ah context. Yet, I’m willing to be not all people give “The Factor” its undivided attention as you do… Kids are home, dinner is cooking … Fox new is on. You glance and catch that segment. And, voila! The desired result.

Fox new’s track record regarding the usage of footage to meet their agenda is not new. Since you’re a lover of links, enjoy:
