The Black Dahlia lives!

We are currently in Tucson, returning back to snowless Colorado tomorrow. Over lunch yesterday our friends recounted the story of Elizabeth Smart, an ABC newsperson who in 2002 was abducted at age 14 and held captive for nine months, raped daily, and later rescued on the streets of Sandy, Utah after someone recognized her captors from an episode of America’s Most Wanted.

That’s quite a story, and it caught my attention because it seemed fake … for two reasons: One, it seems more like a made-for-TV movie than anything real. This is reinforced by Wikipedia spook markers, that she was rescued 18 miles from home (29 kilometers), and 2) “Elizabeth Smart” … really?

The Black Dahlia? Her name was Elizabeth Short. They’re recycling. Kind of.
