Passover

Making the rounds:

“A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt……If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake.”

— Thomas Jefferson, 1798 letter after the passage of the Sedition Act

  1. The more years I add on, principles seem to be something I dreamed up as a kid and never let go of. If Mr. Jefferson continues to urge us to be patient after 209 years, I suppose I can hang on a little longer too.

And, oh yeah, Thanks! (Thanksgiving, right?)

  2. Happy belated TG to you, Bob. I’ve been away – my son reminded us that not matter the times we happen to live in, those who came before us also thought they lived in unusual times.
