I hope liberals don’t make too much of the fact that Jim D. Adkisson, the lunatic that gunned down eight people in a Unitarian church in Knoxville, did so because of the group’s liberal views. What happened was random. That could as easily have been a black church or a white fundamentalist one. There are crazies out there, they can strike anywhere, any time, for any reason.
This time they hit a liberal church. Next time it will be something else – something I can’t even imagine. That’s because it is crazy, and crazy is, by definition, random. These are victims of random violence, but let’s not make a cause of it. It can happen to any one of us at any time, and there is no rational explanation.

Hm. I agree to a point — obviously, from the post I wrote on this yesterday. I do think conservative rhetoric has a hand in this, with its “liberals are traitors” and “should be poisoned” quote unquote jokes. That kind of stuff gives crazy people the licence to do stuff like this.
Of course the comment should apply to all ideologies, but I don’t see much liberal hate-drivel occupying prime-time television slots…

The shooter “hated liberals” and was concerned that he wouldn’t be able to get his food stamps anymore? Sounds like “batshit crazy” to me.

It wasn’t random. He made it clear he hit THAT church because they were liberals.
This is a case of right wing terrorism, clear and simple.
That doesn’t mean all right wingers are terrorists, but this one clearly was.

There are many seething and angry conservatives out there and Rush feeds them, but they do not go postal on us. That breed of cat operates independent of ideology. Sure, it was a liberal church this time, but at VA Tech it was mere social ostracism. It could be anything, any snub, any cause, real or imagined. You can’t protect yourself from this.
