Canada has laws about lying, you see

I guess if you get your news from Fox, you’re not going to hear about this, but there is a law in Canada that prohibits a news channel from broadcasting “”….any false or misleading news.” For that reason, Fox news is not shown in Canada. Prime Minister Harper wanted the law repealed so Fox could move into Canada. Regulators up there say no.

How they decide what is false or misleading is not hard. I’ve written in the past couple of weeks about two bright shining lies on Fox, one switching poll results to say that Americans did not support collective bargain rights for Wisconsin public employees, and the other the palm tree incident. The latter is not technically false, but surely misleading.

Quebecor to launch conservative all-news TV service patterned on Fox News

The Canadian Press Jun 15, 2010 11:19:30 AM

TORONTO – Canada will be getting a new TV news channel believed to be patterned on America’s colourful and very popular right-wing Fox News.
Quebecor Media Inc. says it’s launching Sun TV News, ending months of speculation and anticipation in Ottawa over what had been dubbed “Fox News North.”
Quebecor CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau says Canada’s other national all-news networks CBC News Network and CTV News Channel have had more than 20 and 13 years respectively to get it right and have failed.

  2. I remember once as a kid I was playing with a vase my mother liked, and of course, I broke it. I told my parents that my brother Joe did it.

When they discovered I had done it, I told them that I wasn’t lying, just being “colourful.” My Mom, a liberal, wasn’t buying. My dad, a right winger, ate it up.
