Yes, he is that Michael Brown.

Michael Brown here. It’s FRIDAY! Another Caption This Contest. Considering that Hugo Chavez is still dead, and his funeral is being held today, here’s today’s photo. May the best – or worst – caption win. The winner gets…a pair of passes to Ski Loveland! Have fun!

Contest entries follow by the dozen, a few examples:

Michael J. Titera Book Title: “How To Fake Your Own Death”

Brenda Nance Peeples Dude, just follow the instructions in my book “How to become a Great Dictator”, in just a few short years you can be a greater dictator than I am.

Ron Marek “Here’s your copy of Hitler’s Mein Kampf back. Great stuff!”

Those are some of the better ones … blah blah blah, 99 comments later, Brown silent throughout:

Mark Tokarski I have the perfect caption. This should win! “Mr. president, this is the book “Open Veins of Latin America,” by a very good writer named Eduardo Galeano. I hoped you might take the time to read it, as it offers you necessary background. It will help you understand the problems we face down here after 500 years of colonialism, and how we have been hindered in development because our resources are under control of outsiders. My hope for my country is that we be allowed to use our resources for our development.”

Mark Tokarski That was the real name of the book, and the real message. Mr. Brown, you and Obama both would benefit by opening the cover of that 1973 book, well-known all over that continent. The attitudes expressed here, including yours, are nothing short of hateful and stubbornly uninformed.

Michael: Brown Yes, I hate dictators and tyrants, especially those who try to make it appear they helped the poor by restricting liberty and individual freedom. And by the way, I’ve traveled extensively in South America and know how bad it is. Socialism and Marxism have not helped the poor. If you think it’s so great, go check it out personally. Otherwise, shut up. Oops, guess that’s hateful and stubbornly uniformed. I’m really sick of apologists for socialism and Marxism vis-a-vis Chavez.

Mark Tokarski Er, uh … colonialism? That is what the book that Chavez offered Obama was about, 500 years of colonial history that prevents development. Marxism? Socialism? That’s an invitation for invasion, assassination, death squads – I think the stuff you refer to as “liberty and individual freedom.” You have a blind eye. Out of respect for the dead, why not read the damned book? I’ll give you mine, or Obama still has his copy, unopened, as he suffers from your same hubris.

Final comments on thread:

Mark Tokarski Talk radio is a garbage dump, a place where people go to have their own views validated. As shown here, people get very angry when views of the other side are even discussed, much less discussed in a civil manner. MB, you put up a photo here for a fake contest, and you obviously had no clue of the setting of the photo itself, the book or its content. You lacked knowledge, and then lectured me about how you had visited Latin America, so that a superficial experience trumped knowing anything of one of its most important writers. End of discussion. We don’t live in ignorance. We cherish it. We enable it. We avoid dealing with people we disagree with. Talk radio is a symbol of our intellectual decadence.I thought there was a chance of something good happening when [David] Sirota came aboard [as co-host with MB], not in his views, but rather that there would be civil exchange. He’s gone now, you all get to stroke each other in your utter ignorance. This thread is over 100 comments long, and 99% of them are snarky and stupid. I made a comment about what really happened in the photo, and you attacked me. Did it occur to you to question the content of the other 99%, or is ignorance your stock in trade?

Heckuva a job.

Frank Passanante Slacker- good handle for a liberal. LOL

  1. Our version of Rome’s bread and circus routine. Entertain the masses, marginalize dissenters who have more important things to do. Disappear the ones who don’t flinch at state/media-sponsored character assassination. Gawker culture. We’ve come a long way, baby.
