Cure for the common cold-like symptoms

We’ve been traveling and are currently staying in Fort Myers, Florida. Twice is not a trend, probably just coincidence, but last time here a few years ago, I came down with sniffles and sneezes and a hacking cough. That last time it happened, I returned home to Colorado thinking I would have a week to ten days to recover from a cold, which was all I thought of it. I was very surprised to completely recover in one-half day, including the plane trip.

This time I have been trying to come up with alternative explanations. One was sand flies. We were in Grand Turk, and the front of my legs is covered with bites. I don’t spend time on the beach, only pass through it on my way to the water, so I wondered where they got me. Turns out it was the open-air restaurant where we ate… I wore shorts the entire time, and that explains why they only got the front of my legs.

I looked up toxic effects of sand fly bites, and there are really none beyond itching and red pustules. So my Fort Myers effect must be something else.

The other morning as we got in our car, there was a mosquito inside, and we swooped it out.  Then I realized something: We are in lush green area with lots of water around, and there are no bugs!  Our aunt says they spray regularly, and every restaurant, park, beach and business that entertains people outdoors sprays for bugs. Early explorers here must have had to cover up despite the heat to avoid being eaten alive.

Here’s my guess: I am having an allergic reaction to chemicals used to control bugs. Our aunt says our cousin, who comes down often from Connecticut, has the same reaction. Home in Colorado, at 7,800 feet, we have few bugs,  naturally, and no agriculture around us with fertilizers and pesticides and the like. So we live relatively pure lives, and some of us are affected when we travel to places that depend on tourism and so treat pests.

The people who live here have adapted, I would say.

  1. Fracking chemicals: Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes. Jet fuel may burn small amounts even after refinement. Smaller amounts may enter the recycled air in commercial jets. EPA is no help here.

  2. Anecdotally and personally, whenever I start a new job, I start feeling like I’m coming down with something. A few days later, I’m fine. No sickness. My belief is that my body has to adapt to the new environment…whatever chemicals are in the air. Carpeting, wood finishes, paint vapor, poor ventilation systems, etc

  3. While I also see the ‘toxic exposures’ of a world that is to some degree reflecting our own influences, I am more attracted to look at the underlying psychic elements we are ‘trained not to see’ in our particular era. GNM perspectives are a step in this direction.
    But even chemical or other toxins find various degrees of ‘susceptibility’ that we usually assign to ‘the immune system’ as if that explains something so as not to bring deeper curiosity.
    We have personal and collective participation in our experience as meanings and reactive associations and responses – most of which is running beneath what we call conscious.

    I don’t write to argue anything but to offer perspective others may take or leave. But as I see it, we ‘think’ in terms of patterns of conditioning that for the most part run invisible or internalised as ‘normal’.
    So what is a cold?
    Perhaps we could question the assumption that it is one thing in terms of causes & effect at all levels of what it is to be human.
    Many are uncomfortable without labels by which to organise and tidy up our experience of our world, but this is much more open to receiving a wider spectrum of information, guidance or support than what the ‘official reality’ dictates – though the latter is part of our collective practicality, as long as we are not locked down in its image and idol.
    Discernment is always a unique experience of relational honesty. The mind of judgements takes snapshots by which to model a predictive sense of control.
    Curiously sickness can be unconsciously used to serve such a sense of control or evasion – as a psychic or psychological defence.
    I see ‘psychological’ as pertaining to the study of mind, & therefore masked and distanced by definition. ‘Psychic’ is also misused but is a participative quality of thought, feeling and experience. We are feeling beings using emotional states of snapshot-meanings as a masking substitution. Cells and selves have a lot in common.
    The idea of biofield offers a meeting point for healing the split mind of inner and outer as polarised exclusions, but only a Felt awareness – or we are delivered unto a bio-tech management system that reflects our own ‘predictive control’ loops.

  4. I have a science fiction theory that the common cold was induced in the human race thousands of years ago in a biological warfare attack. The purpose of the attack was to disable the human sense of smell.

    1. This has explanatory power, why it is in our past travels my wife has suffered some distress while I have not. Yet, once in Miami on this trip, traveling twice through the airport, I came down with a lump in my throat and sniffles, which disappeared after returning to Colorado. I have suspected in the past that in hotter climates sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, byproducts of jet aviation (burning kerosene) are in the air and stay as active compounds due to heat (unscientific speculation) and we ingest them. Why did she suffer but not me? Does she perhaps have a more frail constitution? Most people do not get sick when traveling through airports.

      The graphene is a new twist, and reference to “chemtrails” as opposed to contrails intriguing. I once put up a post taken from a man who studied the matter in depth and concluded that any jet trail that persisted more than a few seconds had in it chemical compounds beyond mere water droplets. The post disappeared. I was not able to locate the original article either. I did not dream it.

      All of this places me on the outside looking in, seeing real phenomena I cannot explain, scratching my head. Maybe that is why I have so much less hair now than in years past, the damned scratching at things I do not understand.

      1. This may also be due to an aerotoxicosis. All modern jet planes, except for the Boeing 787, are designed so that the cabin air that the passengers and crew breathe passes through the engines first.

        1. That’s fascinating.. have you seen any information on the health effects on pilots and crew? If this is true, commercial air travelers probably ought to be wearing serious industrial air filtration masks (lol).. what a terrible cost cutting measure (if that’s all it was.)
