Martin Luther King assassination … hidden in plain sight

I am busy today transcribing a one-hour interview by Len Osamic of William Pepper, currently serving as defense attorney for Sirhan Sirhan, but before that the attorney for James Earl Ray. And I have to chuckle a little bit because commenter Fred has said to me on occasion that the government cannot keep secrets and that secrets get out, and that’s why he doesn’t believe these fantastic stories of conspiracies and cover-ups, Martin Luther King being a big one.

Well, information did get out there. In 1999 the family of Martin Luther King sued Lloyd Jowers and “other unknown conspirators” in the death of Dr. King, forcing a public trial in Memphis. It was the trial of the century, and no one showed up. To this day if you ask any newspaper reporter or journalist in this country about that trial, you’ll get a blank stare. But for a week Three weeks in 1999 seventy witnesses were called and testified about the events surrounding King’s death. The verdict was that Lloyd Jowers, a minor player, was found guilty, as were the FBI, Memphis Police, and U.S. Army.

The trial is public record, and I intend somehow to get hold of the transcript. William Pepper and company have done a remarkable job of uncovering witnesses and evidence. It seems they know everything now except the name of the actual shooter. Lloyd Jowers, who had ulterior motives for approaching the King family to confess his guilt, was not a shooter, but took care of the rifle after King was gunned down from the bushes below the rooming house where the shot “officially” was fired. He knows who fired the killing shot, but refused to give up a name because, as Pepper says, he feared for his life. The actual murderer of King, a hired gun, a mechanic, was a very dangerous man, and was still alive in 1999.

It gets even more interesting. There were levels of organization in the shooting, with the U.S. Army providing backup snipers in case King survived. (Andrew Young was also to be killed that day but was not.) The Army also provided a photographic team, two still photographers who were atop the fire station nearby taking pictures of everything. From them we heard testimony that James Earl Ray was not present at the time of the shooting. But is that not weird, that the Army took the trouble to photograph the event? Would we not want to see those photos now? Were they produced at trial? Subpoenaed?

Here’s part of the Pepper interview, as it relates to Colonel John Downie, who was in charge of the military side of the shooting:

That entire Army unit, those soldiers, the ones from Psychological Operations and the other Special Ops came out of Camp Shelby, Mississippi early that morning, was designated, authorized under the control of Colonel John Downie. John Downie was the head of the 902nd Military Intelligence Group that was based in the Pentagon reporting directly to the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence of the United States Army. And that’s the only MIG, Military Intelligence Group, that is based in the Pentagon. John Downie controlled it, he was brought back to take it over and run it in June of 1967, and he was given his marching orders to begin to organize the military side of that operation as opposed to the civilian side, which was handled separately.

Downie was organizing the military side in ’67. He’s an interesting character, and was a man, strangely enough, that one had to have some respect for as a patriot who believed what he was doing was right. Because, he was Lyndon Johnson’s briefer. He was also CIA. He was Lyndon Johnson’s briefer on the Vietnam War. And he would come back into Washington on a regular basis and meet with the President to give him a briefing on the war and continually question the president as to what we were doing there, saying this was a ridiculous waste of blood and treasure, and that we had no business being there. And why are we there? And he kept pounding out this fact to Johnson and finally one day Johnson pounded the table and said to him “John, I can’t get out of this war. My friends are making too much money.”

Now that is one of the most outrageous and revealing statements about war and the waging of war that any head of state in the history of this republic has ever made. And he made it to John Downie, and I learned about that subsequently with an interview of John Downie’s daughter, who remembers him coming home that day very upset and saying to his wife “Pack your bags. We’re going to Canada.” And he had himself transferred up to the embassy in Canada and wanted nothing more to do with being a facilitator for the war in Vietnam.

So that taught me something about the character of this man who originally was from Pennsylvania, and in terms of his perceived actions in terms of patriotism. And I believe – this is the quandary one gets into – I believe that he had no doubt that Martin King was an enemy of the state and that what he was doing was correct. Of course, however, it was wrong and illegal and criminal and immoral. With that assessment, one has to put the whole story out there so that it’s clear where this guy was coming from. He ran the military side of things. He ran the military side.

I find that intriguing, that the assassination of Martin Luther King can be traced to within shouting distance of Lyndon Johnson. Of course, we have no evidence that Johnson ordered it or even knew about it. But his military briefer sure did.

Pepper will put out a book that summarizes all of this, to be coordinated with a movie, in the near future. He has written two previous books on this subject, Orders to Kill: The Truth Behind the Murder of Martin Luther King (1995), and An Act of State: The Execution of Martin Luther King (2003, revised 2008). These will be folded into the final book, which also includes “devastating information that I have been able to acquire in the fifteen years following the civil trial.”

So there ya go, Fred. Information got out, it’s hidden in plain sight, and still no one knows about it! That’s thought control in our democratic society, at its finest.

  1. The King Family site has the transcripts I think. If John Bowers had resigned I would have more respect for him. Getting a transfer but keeping his job doesn’t sound all that heroic.

    1. Thanks, Steve. Kerry, of course, was not acting on his own, and was just a messenger boy, and the Saudis, of course, are dogs on a leash. This is a …. conspiracy … there’s that word … among powerful factions to do harm to Venezuela and the Russians. And like all of these affairs, they have the power to put forces in motion, but cannot control the fallout, although owning the president and the congress to force a bailout is pretty good control of the fallout, now that I think about it.

  2. I noticed this old post. I assume everyone is up to date that MLK was not assassinated. The most fascinating fact that no one typically mentions is MLKs “final” speech talking about the mountaintop and how he might not get there with us (stifle guffaws) was done in a Masonic temple in Memphis! Boule all the way.

Here is a zombie challenge: there is strong circumstantial and physical evidence, based on my review of the facts, that MLK could have become Don King. Which is a very reasonable idea, considering how rich Don King supposedly became. That only makes sense if Don King was a very high ranking Mason, and not the convicted murderer we have been told about, who went from rags to riches. In sum, Don King looks like MLK with a wig a little makeup, and a very logical choice if you are MLK and have “earned” for the Masons, that he could get a choice re-assignment to rake in millions and live the high life.

  3. I found the smoking gun, case solved. Coretta Scott King petitioned to pardon this dual murderer Don King, who was released in 1972.

After dropping out of KENT STATE he ran an illegal operation out of the basement of a record store and was charged with killing two men in incidents 13 YEARS APART. The first was determined to be justifiable homicide after it was found that King shot Hillary Brown in the back and killed him while he was attempting to rob one of King’s gambling houses in 1954. In 1967, King was convicted for second degree murder after he was found guilty of stomping to death an employee, Sam Garrett, who owed him $600.

Having been released in 1972, King was pardoned in 1983 by Ohio Governor Jim Rhodes, with letters from JESSE JACKSON, CORETTA SCOTT KING, ART MODELL, etc, in support of King.

  4. From the King wiki page. I wonder if they will remove “at Mason temple” part in the future to cover their ass. It’s funny they say “at Mason temple”, and not the specific name of the temple.

On April 3, King addressed a rally and delivered his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” address at Mason Temple. King’s flight to Memphis had been delayed by a bomb threat against his plane. In reference to the bomb threat, King said:

“And then I got to Memphis. And some began to say the threats, or talk about the threats that were out. What would happen to me from some of our sick white brothers? Well, I don’t know what will happen now. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn’t matter with me now. Because I’ve been to the mountaintop. And I don’t mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. So I’m happy, tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”

    1. OK, put me down as very surprised. It’s all there, head shape, eye level, ear level, lips, mouth, mustache.

With your permission I’d like to write this up on the blog tomorrow. I will include all of the various circumstantial evidence you supplied.

    2. Hi, my quote got cutoff because of my sloppy editing, my error. Reason is if I try to copy and paste from wiki, they have embedded links, and wordpress does not like too many embedded links. So I deleted the extra material.

I noticed two things that may be questioned: first is height. MLK is claimed 5’7″, Don King 6’2″. So that is an issue. Could be worked around, and of course Don could be MLKs close relative as another possibility.

The other is the Mason temple. It’s actually not a “Masonic” temple – they bend over backwards on wiki to try and suggest there is no connection. That beggars’ ones intelligence, as Christians don’t normally call churches temples. Moreover, it’s well known MLK was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, aka “Boule”, the service fraternity in Greek lore. Greek fraternities are Masonic. And even the mainstream had to admit MLK plagiarized most of his PhD thesis, which is pretty lame for degree in seminary studies, not exactly the most difficult of fields. In sum MLK was a Mason and big time deceiver.

      1. We used to have a person stop in here to claim that so and so was this height and the other so and so much shorter … say, singer Bobby Fuller becoming Bill O’Reilly, Fox news anchor. I was able to work around that one but it took some effort, to use the relative length of his forearm in photos to show that Fuller was quite tall and comparable to O’Reilly in photos. One way is to find photos of MLK in relation to others … I hope others can do this work but I will see what gives on return if not. People shy away from this kind of work, but anyone can do it. It is an important feature and needs honest evaluation. 6’2″ is quite tall, 5’7″quite short.

Masons use the word “temple” for their gathering spots, though I’ve never looked into it. A “Masonic Temple” is a common thing, even in small cities like the one I grew up in, Billings, MT. I think of them as their Knights of Columbus Catholic counterparts … bars.

I hope we can have a far-ranging discussion of all of this after the post. Things are never really finalized. Mathis does a good job on MLK’s PhD dissertations, suggesting that CIA spooks assigned to write his fake bio merely got lazy. All of the genealogy in that MM 17-page piece was hard for me, but his underlying thesis, that in these ruling families everyone is related to everyone, appears to hold water.

I took note at one time on some genealogical work I did (I do very little of it and am not good at it), that actor Woody Harrelson’s father Charles was said to be a professional assassin who died in prison and was suspected to be one of the famous three tramps in Dealey Plaza photographed on 11/22/63. I found that Charles’ wife (Woody’s mother’s) maiden name was … Oswald.

  5. Mark, be my guest! I actually heard this suggested somewhere on the web, I scour so many sites I can’t recall where it was. But the circumstantial evidence and facial similarity are very strong. There’s a picture somewhere of Don King holding up a young Mike Tyson with a huge grin on his face, and you can see MLK right through the disguise. Shit eating grin if I may say so.

And it makes sense from the Don King angle. He’s portrayed as a violent ex-con – which is another nice trick to hide discovery, his personality is “opposite” that of MLK. And then Don King gets out of prison in 1972, puts together Rumble in the Jungle, and has every major black fighter as his client. Not a believable story if told straight. And Rumble in the Jungle is an very obvious fake fight, watch in on YouTube, it’s seriously laughable, especially Foremans fake air punches. I believe early 1970s when re-runs and videotape were not common they could get away with such bad live fakery.
