And not to know it …

This quote came to mind as I thought about Big Swede’s comment below, and I think it applies to a certain Professor Natelson as well:

To be a spoiled person is not to be well-off or favored by fortune or protected from brute realities. It is to be well-off or favored by fortune or protected from brute realities and not to know it. (Christopher Hitchens)

  1. I’m not spoiled, I’ve invested well in ranch and farm real estate. When all my friends were buying two new cars every couple years, I built rentals. I still, to this day, don’t own a car under 12 years old, 120K miles.

Unlike you, my wife and I work and have worked full time for large companies because of the benefits they provide. I only ventured out on my own, knowing full well, we still had coverage for the family.

If’s thats spoiled so be it, it’s better than being stupid.

  2. And not to know it …

You sound like so many people I have known … you did it all on your own, no one helped you … and yet, at the same time, you were afraid to go out and challenge the world on your own. You brave bastard, you …

And you are methodically avoiding looking at 1) a society that encourages people to be wage slaves, and 2) a private insurance system that by it’s very design cannot serve people well.

    1. I guess if I showed you wedding pictures of my wife and I on the porch of our trailer house (Shilo Village) you’d call me a BSer.
