Sarah Palin is going to be grandmother of an illegitimate child. Here’s the immediate fallout, as I see it:
First, McCain went with his gut, and his staff did not override him. It must have been emotional. They hadn’t even bothered to check the stories in her local paper. He looks impulsive, and doesn’t seem to respond to sober voices around him. They must be going nuts.
Second, there will be a rebellion at the convention, and a movement to dump her. It could result in a Romney pick, but it will make McCain look very bad. There are no good outcomes at this point.
It’s a little bit like McGovern/Eagleton. Pardon me for citing a great poet of my era: Everyway you look at it you lose.

Yeah, seriously… the Republican family’s response to this is to force your kid to have the baby and marry the father of the child. Palin is doing exactly this, so she’s gonna look pretty good, unfortunately.
The marriage, of course, will be a disaster, but God knows our socially Conservative friends won’t give a shit about that.

The wagons are circling. Hannity will have his back. But seriously – if Biden had an out-of-wedlocker in the immediate family, would Obama have picked him? Republicans and the media would tear him a new one.
It’s a question of how openly and brazenly hypocritical they think they can be, of how little fear they have of our neutered media. “Liberal”, I think they call it.

You’re living in olden times, Tokarski. My generation, the kids who grew up on the Ferris Bueller biblical epics, are now the central demographic. I have a daughter with a kid, and I’m The Social Conservative- the days of there being a movement to dump this chick are gone. We’re too close to social collapse for this to be an issue.

Two reasons why she should have said no: 1) a Downs Syndrome kid, and 2) a pregnant daughter. Baby needs all her time, and running for VP will bring way too much hardship on the daughter. This is an ambitious woman – she wants the job, no matter the cost to her family.
What does Dr. Laura have to say about a working mom with a Downs baby? Can’t be good.

But here’s what I think is a good thing – if people, when getting pregnant by accident, have a choice of ending the pregnancy. Fewer unwanted children, fewer unhappy children, fewer stressed out desperate-for-a-caring-man women. Less crime, less poverty.
